As a librarian in Arusha, Tanzania, I am a firm believer that reading changes lives. We have insatiable needs for books and other learning materials within my community. Last summer the Maktaba.org team visited to assist with a successful redesign of our physical library (which went great)...AND we received hundreds of new books. Currently we are working with the Maktaba.org team to upgrade our technology (barcode scanning, a checkout system and more digital content). As an advisor, I give updates on progress in Arusha and meet regularly with other organizations like mine to find new partners for the Maktaba team to support.

Neema Mghase
As an educator, we appreciate partnering with Maktaba to offer learning materials for children and parents within our community. I work directly with the Maktaba team to provide financial reporting and feedback on some of their initiatives in Arusha. Additionally, I regularly am looking for opportunities to improve operations, increase participation and provide higher quality services to our partners (and other organizations like ours).

I teach computer classes, drone operation, arduino and am always looking for opportunitites to bring new instruction methodologies to our learning community. In addition to providing regular feedback on the quality of our programs, I also help document many of our successes using photography, video and recently drone footage. As a partner and advisor, in my spare time I enjoy taking tennis lessons and playing soccer outside our facility in Kijenge.

Irene Ernest
I teach children and advise the Maktaba team. I enjoy sharing feedback and working with our international partners to improve the quality of our instruction while seeking additional resources as needed. I enjoy being able to receive childcare while teaching and look forward to working with other partners in the area on behalf of Maktaba (and other international partners) to help replicate the success that we have enjoyed at Elimu Yetu.

I teach several classes and recently helped launch the tennis program in Arusha, Tanzania. I personally am new to tennis, but the coaches we are working with are experts and I have enjoyed watching our students gain exposure to a new sport while developing hand eye coordination and confidence. As an advisor, I regularly look for new tools and techniques to improve communication within our organization and with our international partners.
