Graded readers are an important component in teaching and learning language. Graded readers strengthen the language skills learned in class. They give reading material at the level of the grade and at the level of language learned, following the sequencing of the syllabus, particularly in structure and tenses.
The stories in the readers are based on events that are familiar to the pupils. The characters in the stories are children of their age. They go to the school like them. Therefore, the pupils enjoy reading these stories while they are, at the same time, strengthening their language skills.
Teachers are advised to use the readers in class as reading practice. It is recommended that pupils read these readers outside the class so they can put in practice the skills they have acquired.
