Pages 38
Women Making a Difference, a radio series and a book which explores the issues confronting women in Africa. It is a collaboration between the BBC World Service, a variety of organisations across Africa, and African women themselves. These are truly women making a difference, whose lives and achievements can be an inspiration to every listener or reader. The note contained in this book can be used alongside the radio series or independently of it. The titles in this section are related to the UN Fourth World Conference on Women (Beijing, 1995). Some focus on the conference itself, while others are concerned with the monitoring of governments' commitment to implement the Beijing Platform for Action. Of particular interest is IWTC's new community action guide: Women! Policy! Action!Using the Platform for Action as a unique approach to studying English, this book features interviews with African women; English language practice exercises to revise the key vocabulary introduced; practical advice in the topic area; and expert tips for everyday use. Appendices include a summary of CEDAW; glossary; answer key; details of useful organizations.
